What is the best Birth Course in Australia?

Hello, my name is Natalie Meade. I am a private birth educator with thirteen years’ experience and I am going to get straight to the point. (I will not waste your valuable time telling you about ‘one private birth course’, over ‘another’).

ALL private courses are GREAT!!!!

They all have the same key concepts, philosophies and helpful tips and tools and they are all very, very good!

However, in your quest to perhaps decide hospital OR private course? I’m going to help you to find an answer, and the place to start is to ask yourself a few questions…

What is the purpose of education? Is it to give you useful, positive, encouraging information about birth, that matches with your instincts and helps you switch on the mumma bear? Or is it to mould you into being a “good patient”? To align with your care provider’s preferences?

What are your personal feelings about birth? Do you believe that birth is a natural process and that as modern women we can educate, prepare and remember this deep truth? Or do you believe birth is a medical event and that many womens’ bodies are broken and need fix

If you are leaning towards the later answers,  you may be seeking a medical course run in the hospital system and facilitated by a medical care provider. If you find some of the early answers appealing, you may gain a whole lot more from an independent, privately run, holistic course.

Privately run birth courses are very special, they support not just your physical birth education, but also supports your emotional and mental needs for birth, breastfeeding, becoming a mother and parenting.

Your educator will help you fall in love with birth, your body and your baby, be amazed by your uterus, be blown away by how powerful your hormones are, have breakthrough moments about unhindered/undisturbed birth, and explore communication skills so that you can feel confident speaking with your care provider about your needs and desires at your next appointment.

In a privately run course, groups are small enough to ask personal questions, admitting fears is commonplace and encouraged (and we help with them too!), crying is normal and well-supported, and of course, partners/supporters are a big part of the program and are included with you!

Once you want to do a private birth course, how do you book in?

Type “private birth course Hunter” (or similar) into your internet search engine and reach out to all the options that ‘sing to you’. Read about your educator, their passions, experiences and skills. Ring them on the phone and have a good chat!

Remember ANY private course is AMAZING!!!

Remember to always check your course for some essential aspects of birth preparation:

  • Visualisation, mindfulness, learning about the “natural birth trance”
  • Learning how to tune in and work with intuition and instinct
  • Communication and assertiveness skills, relationship and team-work
  • R.A.I.N.S tool, for making fully informed decisions
  • Self-awareness, mind-set work, the psychology and language of birth, and neuro-muscular awareness
  • Honouring that birth is not just about a healthy baby, but a healthy mother and a healthy baby.
